Despite workplace reactions to settling pandemic responses, the recruiting process continues to thrive in the digital world. The pandemic has ushered in a new era of remote work, and as a result, job interviews have gone virtual. With 49% of companies still conducting video interviews, it’s important to know how to prepare and ace your next one.
Here are eight tips to help you succeed in your video job interview:
- Test your technology
Before your interview, test your equipment to make sure everything is working properly. Download any necessary apps or plugins and make sure your username is professional. Test your camera, microphone, and internet connection to ensure they’re all functioning properly. It’s also a good idea to do a trial run with a friend or family member to make sure everything is working as it should.
- Charge your device
If you’re using a laptop or tablet, make sure it’s fully charged on the day of the interview. Choose a spot with a strong Wi-Fi connection and try to keep your device stationary to avoid a shaky screen. Avoid using a smartphone for video interviews whenever possible.
- Dress professionally
Dress for the interview as you would for an in-person meeting, from head to toe. Avoid bright, flashy colors and choose something that looks neat and pressed. It’s also a good idea to wear your interview outfit during your trial run to get feedback on how it looks on screen.
