Tips for Writing your Resume

Understanding the concept of a resume. Your resume is basically a summary of your professional journey indicating how much you have worked in order to reach that point, which pathway you have taken and where you wish to get.

In order to build a solid resume, we need to follow three main ideas: truth, simplicity and efficiency. These are three simple ideas, but they will provide your resume with more credibility and reliability.

Truth:

When writing your resume, the goal is to reach an equilibrium point, a some sort of balance. You should not add skills or qualifications that you do not possess. Remember, during the interview, you will be tested and you won't want to be put in such a situation. Therefore, make sure you stick to the truth.

Simplicity:

The saying “simplicity is not stupidity” goes along really well with how you should build your resume. The hiring managers going over your resume are generally extremely busy and they need to instantly see why you are a great fit to the applied vacancy. Be straight to the point.

Efficiency:

The third and last idea talks about efficiency when building a resume. In order words, your resume needs to be a full and direct representation of everything the hiring manager needs to know related to the applied vacancy.

Model of a Resume

In order to write a simple and thorough resume, a valid suggestion is to split it in a few fundamental sections.

  • Header: In this section, just add the basic information such as your name, address and contact details.
  • Qualifications and characteristics: Write a little bit about yourself, your skills and major personal and professional characteristics.
  • Academics: Write about your formal academic education including undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
  • Technical & specific skills and knowledge: Write about the technology you have experience with.
  • Professional experience: In this section, write in details about your professional experience including your responsibilities, blending with some achievements.
  • Languages: In a world where English is the primary language, it is always important to have a secondary or 3rd language under your sleeve.
  • Other information: Use this section to write about interesting topics about yourself which are worth letting the hiring managers know.
